What We Do in Preschool
Circle Time and Awareness
Circle time is a social group gathering in the mornings each day. The children will participate in songs and music and learn about daily themes and lessons. Circle activities are designed to stimulate children’s thinking, enrich their social skills, allow self-expression, and expand attention spans. Topics will include weather, calendar, flag salute, current events, and dramatic play.
Manipulative and Learning Games
Manipulative activities help children to improve small muscle development, hand eye coordination, and cognitive development. Some examples of these manipulative activities are puzzles, beads and lacing, pegboards, and blocks. Some common cognitive games include games using numbers, letters, shapes, and colors. The children experience many different concepts, such as shape and size discrimination, spatial relationships, number skills, balance, organization, and classification. These activities also promote cooperative play skills, problem solving, and creativity.
Craft time helps children creatively express their thoughts and feelings. It helps to reinforce fine motor skills and concept development. It also allows children to experiment with textures and the properties of different substances. Craft activities include painting, play-doh, shaving cream play, slime, noodle painting, stamping, gluing, and cutting. Our craft time encourages free art expression.
Story time is designed to help children develop an appreciation and enjoyment for literature. Reading activities enhance children’s vocabulary and comprehension skills while expanding their knowledge base. Story time will include both children reading books and being read to.
Exercise and Movement
Exercise and movement will give children the opportunity to develop their large gross motor skills. Children will engage in fun, healthy exercises and use their imaginations. Exercise will either be time in our gym, or using equipment in the classrooms. Activities will include sports play, stretching, tumbling, and free play.
